How well country Tuberculosis (TB) responses are governed?

To answer this question the Stop TB Partnership and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had  launched an assessment and published a report in June 2021. In May 2023 the second report of assessment of governance practices in 18 countries was published. These reports are first of their kind that assess the governance of national TB responses in high burden countries.

On September 2024 the Third report of assessment of governance practices will be launch.  Between December 2023 and April 2024, 22 TB-affected community and civil society (CS) partners of high-burden countries along with 21 of their national TB programmes reported on the country’s progress with respect to 20 benchmarks across the four governance themes. This report presents country profiles for all the participating countries.

These assessment reports are envisioned to support and strengthen the performance of national-level action against TB, one of the world´s oldest and deadliest infectious diseases. They assess the national TB program performance in four thematic areas: transparency, inclusiveness, legal framework, and process efficiency and effectiveness. Under each theme, the national TB program is measured against five ambitious benchmarks.
